Kia showcases 3 models at global EV day event in Korea
At its inaugural global EV Day event in Korea, Kia announced three new models: the radical EV4 sedan, the EV3 SUV, and the production-spec EV5 SUV, which was previously shown as a concept in China earlier this year. These three models, according to Kia, will expand the brand’s global EV lineup and help it meet its goals of selling one million electric vehicles annually by 2026 and 1.6 million by 2030.
All 3 models are based on e-GMP modular platform.
The company is currently launching the EV9 flagship SUV after introducing the Kia EV6 in nearly all of the key markets. Three models that were revealed at the event and are in production-spec will be gradually introduced after these.
Kia EV4 sedan concept previews future Tesla Model 3 rival
The EV4 is a novel concept automobile with a slant-back appearance. It boasts an angular front end with headlamps that are vertically positioned, a big front bumper, a sizable air intake, and subtly blacked-out accents.
At first glance, the four-door sedan does resemble the EV6 quite a little, but up close, it has a variety of distinctive design features, including a sharply angled nose and a roofline that tapers towards the back giving it a sporty appearance. It has a broad shoulder line that extends from the rear door forward, blends into the housing for the rear wheels, and continues into the vertically positioned taillights. With prominent Kia badging, the rear appearance has a tall bumper and an integrated spoiler.
Similar to the EV6 and EV9 and other Kia EVs, the wheels appear to be large and have a triangle layout.
There are not many buttons and a simple interior design. A new ‘Mind Modes’ feature that modifies ambient lighting and dynamic ventilation patterns is also included to the EV4 car. Additionally, there is a “Perform” mode where the driver is given all the data they need to operate at their best. It also has a “Serenity” mode that uses a variety of digital visuals to produce a more tranquil atmosphere.
Kia EV3 SUV likely to be EV replacement for Soul
For the time being, the EV3 will be positioned as Kia’s entry-level born-EV SUV in other countries. The two-row SUV is elegantly packaged in a considerably smaller footprint while sharing many design elements with the larger EV9 and EV5 SUVs. According to Kia, the new CMF design motif for the EV3 SUV stands for Colours, Material, and Finish.
A sharply slanted windscreen and a roofline that subtly tapers towards the back are only two of the cuts and curves that give it its boxy appearance. It boasts hefty alloy wheels and strong wheel arches.
The interior maintains the minimalist style pioneered by prior Kia EVs and follows that design trend. Several environmentally friendly materials, including some that were handcrafted, were reportedly employed in the EV3’s interior, which, according to Kia, gives the interior of the SUV a 3D appearance.
Kia EV5 production-spec SUV
s ago in China, the EV5 SUV’s production-spec debut was held. The SUV was displayed at the Kia EV Day as a world-wide product. The EV5 will be produced in China and Korea for the international markets, according to Kia.
The EV5 is available in normal, long-range, and long-range AWD versions. The EV5 standard has a 64kWh battery pack, a 160kW motor, and is anticipated to have a 530km (CLTC) driving range on a single charge. With the same 160kW motor and an 88kWh battery, the long-range model is planned to have a range of roughly 720km on a single charge. The top-spec EV5 long-range AWD gets an 88kWh battery pack and a combined output of 230kW, with a front-wheel 160kW motor and a rear-wheel 70kW motor. The expected range will be around 650km for this variant.
Kia says the EV5 SUV will have different battery pack and range options depending on the market, including a performance-oriented GT variant that will join a little later. Its five-seat cabin gets multiple seating configurations, and comes equipped with as many as three screens, each dedicated to infotainment, vehicle information and HVAC duty.
The EV5 SUV also gets ADAS tech with V2L and other features, which are already seen on the EV9 and the EV6 sold in India.
Kia EV line-up in India
Kia currently sells the EV6 in our market and has plans to introduce a mass-market EV by 2025. The Kia EV9 will be the brand’s next electric model for India, which is expected to go on sale next year.
