Tata Harrier, Safari facelift fuel efficiency revealed
Bookings are already underway and prices are expected later this month.
Tata Motors recently revealed the Harrier and Safari facelifts with comprehensive updates to the exterior and interior. Mechanically, however, both SUVs continue to be powered by the same 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to either 6-speed manual or automatic gearboxes. Tata Motors has also revealed the claimed fuel efficiency figures for both SUVs, and there is a marginal improvement here too.
2023 Tata Harrier, Safari facelift mileage explained
The redesigned Harrier is advertised to have a fuel efficiency rating of 14.60 kpl for the automatic and 16.80 kpl for the manual. The manual sees a slight 0.45kpl improvement over the previously mentioned values of 16.35kpl and 14.60kpl, while the automatic’s stay the same.
Tata Motors, on the other hand, claims that the revised Safari will have a fuel efficiency of 16.30 kpl for the manual and 14.50 kpl for the automatic, which represents a slight improvement of 0.14 kpl and 0.42 kpl over the models that came before the facelift.
Tata Harrier, Safari facelift mileage compared with rivals
The Safari competes with the Hyundai Alcazar, the 7-seater XUV700, and the MG Hector Plus, while the Harrier competes with vehicles like the MG Hector and 5-seat versions of the Mahindra XUV700. It’s interesting to note that only the Harrier and Safari in this lineup offer diesel engines.
For the diesel-MT versions of the Hector and Hector Plus, MG asserts a fuel efficiency number of 15.58 kpl, which is little less than the diesel-MT Tatas. The Hyundai Alcazar, on the other hand, claims to achieve 18.1 kpl for the diesel-MT and 20.4 kpl for the diesel-AT, both of which are marginally higher than those of the Harrier and Safari. However, the Mahindra XUV700’s diesel models don’t have any official efficiency ratings that we are aware of.
